You know how there are moments in your life when you realize you have to make changes.  Rock Bottom moments.  2 of these occurred within one week of each other for me.  And they have to do with my waistline.  And these “lines I should never cross”  moments made me decide to enter the world of making a green smoothie recipe.

Pina Colada Green Smoothie Recipe | Favemom.comI regularly attend the local LDS temple to do temple work.  For those that don’t know much about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we have churches (anyone can come into, Mormon or not) and temples (requires endorsement from you LDS ecclesiastical leader to enter).  The temples are where individuals make covenants with God and also perform covenants in proxy for those who are deceased (preferably your own ancestors).  What does this all have to do with my hip to waist ratio? Well, when I go to the temple, I change into a white dress, specifically set aside for this purpose.  Given that I wear this dress infrequently I purchased one with the intention of it being able to take in some weight ups and downs.  I have used the same dress for about 15 years.  This past week, I put the dress on and realized I had to breath shallow to keep from popping the buttons on it.  That is a serious red flag.  My weight increase is significant enough, I no longer fit into my temple dress.  I wanted to just have a pity party, but I was in the House of the Lord.  One doesn’t hold self-pity parties there because…well…Jesus. Atonement. Crucifixion…you get it right?

OK when I got myself together I decided that some extra activity in my life would be a good thing.  I got the family to go tubing with me on the New Year’s snow.  I grabbed my winter snow pants.  And you guessed it, I can’t even snap them up at the waist.  Yep, no amount of sucking in, laying back, stretching up was going to result in a clasped ski pant.  I will admit I had to start cracking self-deprecating jokes about it or there would be tears  And then my family would not want to go snow tubing with me at all.  How awkward is that to be having fun while mom is balling?

Pina Colada Green Smoothie Recipe | Favemom.comNow this should be the moment I tell you about how I changed all my eating habits lost 20 pounds and am living the dream.  But it’s not that moment and it will take many pages of blog posts to explain my issues with food.  So suffice it to say, I decided to merely add more vegetables into my life and hope that would crowd out some of the unhealthy food (there is some practice of intuitive eating I am doing, but that is a topic for another post).

I never eat vegetables at breakfast.  I realize spinach omelettes are a popular one, but I am not a big omelette fan (I eat them, but don’t think I have ever desired them). Naturally that led me to green smoothies.  And I have begun replacing my morning hot chocolate (and whipped cream –you see where the waistline came from right?) with a green smoothie.

Here is my “hoping my snow pants fit by next winter” green smoothie.  It is somewhat based on the Simple Green Smoothie girls basic formula.  But that one made way too much for me and my hubz.  But if you want more green smoothie ideas check them out.  I may even take the 7 day challenge.

Makes 2 smoothies, I split it with my husband.
