Who likes Halloween?

I don’t.

I know that it isn’t the appropriate thing to say.  So many people love Halloween.  It’s become the new Christmas.  But honestly I have no love of the undead, creepy-crawlies or horror films.  So naturally Halloween isn’t my thing.  I know there are some people who say, well I just love the fall decorating or the harvest theme.  And I can say I like that part, but I have yet to feel that the harvest theme really makes a presence in October because there is always a zombie in there.

And who made Halloween a weeks long festival?

You moms know what I am talking about.  Halloween used to be one night.  Kids got on a costume, walked the neighborhood to get candy and the whole thing was done.  Now it’s this 2 week festival.  There is the dance class with costumes, the neighborhood play party, the school party, the church social, even some offices are holding “safe trick or treating”  opportunities for kids.   I think I even saw a “come tell Jack Skellington what you want to Halloween” at the mall.  If you are a costume buying parent like myself you have to invest some solid cash to make sure the thing lasts through all the events (and repeated washings—because that witch’s brew always gets spilled).  I guess dry ice sales are pretty happy about this change.

I can, however, get behind the candy part…..Oh wait, I am not supposed to say that, since sugar is the evil food of choice right now. Whatever!  I really do enjoy a Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkin.  And with the Maple Pecan Latte reviving the need for maple flavored cupcakes I am pretty happy.  So if I don’t think too hard about it I can fumble through the season in a pumpkin spice induced haze and make it to the Thanksgiving season (a holiday with a moral component that I can get behind).

This ghost is the closest I can get to being in the spirit of the season.  I hope you find it enough.
