The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Blu-ray Combo Pack Giveaway!
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is coming to Blu-ray & DVD March 19th 2013 and I’m hosting a giveaway to celebrate. My husband and I are both huge fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and so naturally we were in line waiting to see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opening day. It was crowded, but certainly worth the wait. We absolutely loved the movie and so did our 9 year old son.
J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic adventure follows the journey of the title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an amazing quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Sorcerers.
Director Peter Jackson told the first part of his tale of The Hobbit film trilogy in 3D at 48 frames per second,
which is twice the normal rate in case you didn’t know. I will admit that it was definitely too fast for my eyes at first until they adjusted. I actually was getting a headache during the first part of the movie. I have uber sensitive eyes so don’t let that deter you.
Events in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey are set 60 years before novelist J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings starts, all of a sudden the ever wise Gandalf appears at the Shire home of happy Bilbo Baggins urging him to
take part in the adventure.
Gandalf represents 13 dwarves whose Kingdom of Erebor has been attacked and conquered by the dragon Smaug. The dwarves seek to reclaim their homeland and reclaim the treasure the dragon has stolen from them. But Smaug will not go quietly and he is not one that can be easily defeated.
The movie lasts for 170 minutes, The Hobbit packs in so much great quality stuff, but it is a very long movie so for Jackson and company to still retain the magic, enchantment, and majesty they brought to Lord of the Rings is miraculous.
