I am Annette, code name Origami Foodie.
I joined FaVe Mom and her crew after being social media maven for My Sister In Law’s Kitchen with–you guessed it– my sister in law. When she moved on to being a super-amazing nurse, I couldn’t leave blogging behind. I share my own brand of foodie here, an origami foodie. Paper is in our lives everyday and origami crafts it into more than a recyclable. Everyone can make it. Anyone can enjoy it. Tessellations, kid projects, gifts, decorations, modular and extreme, paper becomes so much more with a few folds.
I don’t crush on origami alone. I am foodie in the more traditional sense too. Sure I cook, but my family eats out more than the recommended daily allowance. Still, I enjoy grocery shopping and cook book clubbing. My relationship with food is as complicated as any romance novel–which I read loads of those, but only the clean ones– from bulimia in college to parenting with chocolate chip cookies, and struggling to know “healthy” eating. Yet, food and I came to terms with each other. I don’t obsess and it doesn’t taunt. And we both try to be on time for dinner.
The rest of me…
I am a woman who chose full-time mom as my career, because tactical support is a recognized profession. In the Salt Lake City suburbs, I am responsible for the care and feeding of 2 teens and a sportsman husband (that’s code for gun-enthusiast). UT born, but raised everywhere else. I graduated from Brigham Young University (with a degree I never intended). I helped a different sister in law found a local charter school. Now I secretary for another charter school board (‘cause I am organized like that).
Most of my life is about serving God in any way I can to thank Him. That includes being a scout leader, organizing welfare projects, tying quilts for the homeless, pulling handcarts through WY in a pioneer dress, sharing His word, teaching youth groups, assembling hygiene kits for refugees, and many other activities that uplift and strengthen. I practice yoga (don’t tell ReJenT and FaVe Mom I wear yoga pants to it). I fight winter blues by XC skiing and drinking hot chocolate. One day I will be a member of the D.A.R. #LifeGoals. I obsessively plan every minute of family vacation (‘cause I am organized like that too). Board games and tavern puzzle collection is another hobby of mine, but I only play with the former. And yes, I own a cat.
