When I was younger, my favorite part of going back to school was the school supplies list teachers sent out. As soon as we got it, I would beg my mom to take me to Target so I could browse the aisles picking out new pencils, fun folders and bright highlighters. As you get older, the school supplies list stop coming and you just have to figure out what works best for you. Here are a few of my must-have items that I take with me to my college classes every day.

1. A planner

I’m sure you’ve heard this one over and over, but it is so important. The first day of class you are going to get a list of all your due dates and tests. You’ll also probably join clubs and activities with dates to remember. You will need to write these down because they are so important to do well. My favorite planner is my Lilly Pulitzer Large Agenda. It has fun, bright colors and designs with lots of space to write everything I need to. Target also has a great selection of planners.

2. Colored pens

I’m an organization freak and while colored pens might not be necessary for everyone, I definitely recommend them. I use one color for each of my classes and extracurriculars. They help me keep track of what I need to do and make my planner much more fun to look at (which also keeps me using it!) I love the Sharpie Pens with the fine point for this.

3. A folder

I rarely got handouts in college, so I only used one folder for all of my classes. However, if you do get a lot of papers that you need to save you might want to get one for each class. A great tip is to match the color to whatever colored pen you use for that class.

4. A laptop

Everything at school is basically done on a laptop, so having one is a must. I love Apple computers and they are what my department at my school told me to get so I use a MacBook Pro and having nothing bad to say about it! Apple also offers student discounts and sometimes have bundle packages, too!

5. A bag

Of course, you’re going to need something to carry all of this in. Because I wasn’t bringing too much with me to class most days I would just throw my stuff in a shoulder bag. However, on days when I had a little more to bring with me, I used a backpack. I love the backpacks from Herschel Supply Co. Not only do they have a bunch of cute designs and styles, but every item comes with a lifetime warranty! Perfect for college.

I live between our Nation's Capital and North Carolina, love daisies, giraffes, purple, polka dots, Diet Mountain Dew, Doritos, and guns. Not necessarily in that order. I know that I’m very unoriginal and fit most cliches. I won’t try to deny it if you ask me. Ill-advised, indiscreet, and injudicious individuals infuriate I.
